My stay at Gran Custama Ueno had its ups and downs. The capsule experience was unique, and I enjoyed the lounge area, but the luggage storage rules and staff communication were frustrating. Overall, it provided a decent experience but with some significant drawbacks.

Rooms
5.0
The capsule rooms were as described, offering a classic experience, though the beds were quite compact, making it hard to store larger luggage comfortably.
Service
5.0
Staff were eager to help but often had limited English, which made communication tricky at times. The insistence on moving our luggage out late at night added to the frustration.
Location
7.0
I loved the location; it was close to Ueno Park and several train stations, which made getting around easy and was in a relatively quiet area.
Dining
5.0
The dining options were limited, but I appreciated the free curry offered after check-in, plus there was a 7-11 right behind the hotel for other snacks.
Facilities
6.0
The common area was impressive with a large manga library and lounge chairs, but overall, the facilities felt quite dated and could use some upgrades.

5.2/10

I had a mixed experience at Gran Custama Ueno. The capsule room was quite clean and the bed comfortable, but I faced some frustrating issues, especially with storage and cleaning schedules. I enjoyed the free curry rice and the location was fantastic, close to Ueno Metro and many restaurants, which made it convenient for exploring Tokyo.

Rooms
6.0
The capsule room was nice and clean, with a comfortable bed and soft bedsheets. The bathroom was well-maintained, and I appreciated the small space dedicated to organizing luggage, though the overall room felt small compared to the pictures.
Service
7.0
The staff was polite and helpful when I encountered issues. However, the daily cleaning schedule required me to leave the room, which was a bit inconvenient, and sometimes communication in English was limited.
Location
8.0
The location was a major highlight for me. It was situated in a quiet area but right in the heart of Tokyo, close to Ueno Metro and surrounded by numerous restaurants, making it easy to find meals.
Dining
7.0
I enjoyed the free curry rice available throughout the day. The selection was simple but satisfying, and the option for home-made desserts was a nice touch, though more variety would have been welcome.
Facilities
5.0
While I appreciated the daily housekeeping, I was disappointed that most facilities, like the sauna and gym, were unavailable during my stay. Additionally, the space for luggage storage was cramped, and I felt uneasy leaving my large luggage unattended.

6.2/10

My experience at Gran Custama Ueno was quite mixed. I loved the convenient location near major train stations and a variety of restaurants, but I found the capsule setup and cleanliness lacking. Overall, it felt more like a strict dorm environment than a relaxing stay. 😕

Rooms
6.0
The capsule rooms provided basic amenities like shampoo and body soap, but I bumped into the TV quite a bit as it protruded. Plus, the setup wasn't very intuitive, especially with the electricity in the capsule. It was hard to get comfortable with such a narrow space.
Service
5.0
While the staff attempted to help, the absence of English-speaking personnel made communication difficult. I appreciated the availability of free food and drinks, but it would have been nice if the staff offered clearer guidance on hotel rules.
Location
9.0
Gran Custama Ueno is ideally located right by JR Ueno Station and several other subway lines. This made getting around Tokyo super convenient, and I enjoyed being surrounded by restaurants and shops.
Dining
7.0
I was pleasantly surprised by the complimentary food, including rice, curry, and udon. However, as a Muslim traveler, I had to bring my own side dishes since the options were limited.
Facilities
5.0
The facilities had essential amenities like hair dryers, but cleanliness was an issue. Some toilets felt unclean, and I was frustrated by the lack of space for wet towels.

Staying at Gran Custama Ueno had its ups and downs. The location is super convenient, right near Ueno Station, which is a total win. However, the cramped capsule and lack of English-speaking staff kinda put a damper on my stay. Overall, I felt it was more like a strict dorm than a relaxing getaway.

Rooms
6.0
The capsule room was okay, but pretty tight, especially if you're taller than 5'1". The TV seemed to protrude a bit, and I hit it a couple of times, which was annoying. Plus, the noise from other guests drifted in since the capsule was only covered by curtains.
Service
5.0
I gotta mention the staff weren't fluent in English, so it made it tough to understand some of the rules here. Especially if you're not familiar with Japanese customs, it could be a real challenge.
Location
9.0
On the bright side, the location is fantastic! It’s close to JR Ueno Station and has lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Plus, it’s linked to convenient transport options for getting around Tokyo.
Dining
7.0
Dining options were decent; I appreciated the free rice and curry available during my stay. It definitely helped when I wanted a quick meal without going out.
Facilities
5.0
The facilities were pretty basic. While there were good amenities like shampoo and a hairdryer, the cleanliness was lacking in some areas, especially in the toilets and microwave.

My stay at Gran Custama Ueno was fantastic! The 24/7 access to delicious curry rice was a huge perk for me. I enjoyed the cleanliness and the relaxing onsen, though I did notice a slight moldy smell in the room that was a bit off-putting. Overall, it was a solid experience that I would recommend to fellow solo travelers.

Rooms
7.0
The Capsule Room for Female was clean and included all necessary toiletries, but the moldy smell was concerning. There was limited space for luggage, requiring me to leave my bags at reception.
Service
10.0
The staff were exceptionally friendly and even used a translating app to assist me. Their helpfulness made my stay much more enjoyable.
Location
10.0
Being located near several train stations was a big plus, making it easy for me to explore. Plus, I loved that I could walk to Akihabara and Ueno Park, where I got to see beautiful kanzakura cherry blossoms.
Dining

The homemade curry rice available 24/7 was very nice! I couldn't get enough of it during my stay.

The hotel had excellent facilities, including a manga library and a women's only relaxation area. The housekeeping was also on point, making sure everything was clean and tidy.
